How do I get websites to stop pestering me to upgrade MS Internet Explorer to version 8?

There are certain idiosyncrasies with our computer that will cause it to crash any time certain updates or upgrades are installed, and one of those updates / upgrades is Internet Explorer 8. The only way to counteract these idiosyncrasies is either to put the computer in a VERY COLD room (impractical) or upgrade hardware (likewise).

*Old Computers and XP don't suck. Computer industry just wants you to buy more.

Second used from Internet Explorer:

For security reasons you should have at least Internet Explorer 7:

Tell Windows Update you want to hide the update.

http://windowsupdate.com

(click on Custom and after that, should be under High Priority. Now *check mark* the update, click the + sign and *check mark* the *Don't show this update again*.

Have you tried upgrading to Internet Explorer 8, with all add-ons disabled? IE8 does a great job minimizing CPU usage, and it is a really good idea to update for security purposes.

Let me know if you have any more questions, I'll be happy to answer.

You can't - the code is on the site and it runs if you're not using 8 because the programmer doesn't want to bother butchering the site to look good in older versions.

Run Firefox or, if the computer is really that old, Opera. Real browsers (IE isn't one) don't trigger that message.

Yes you can definitely upgrade to IE8 directly without installing IE7 and to windows media player 11..There should be no problem skipping older version..

Solve your problem: Get a new computer because obviously it's really old and sucks.

Minor fix: Use Firefox or Google Chrome. Internet Explorer sucks.

Just download it. It's the same exact thing. P.S. I know.
