is this true about windows 10?

i asked a question about what to expect with windows 10 when i have it installed later in the year...i still have a windows 7 desktop computer and i plan to have windows 10 put on a separate hard drive in this computer so i have the two operating systems in one computer......but when i asked about windows 10 and what to expect someone mentioned this;

'' First of all, Win10 shows ads in your start menu and installs adware in the background ''


this made me quite alarmed, does windows 10 really show ads in the start menu and installs adware in the background?

what can be done about this when i get windows 10 installed?


im so used to windows 7 im dreading using windows 10 by all these reports ive heard.

People who really know computers will tell you that you should have switched to ten when it first came out.it was free and everyone will be forced to use it at some point if you want to use windows.,so it only made sense.Its a modern os using 7 is just silly when ten is here.one day seven users won't be able to access their favorite websites...yes that day is coming soon and you can't do anything about it except quit using Windows altogether.7 will not be updatable to a version that is supported on the internet,just like xp is now.ten is optimized for today...7 is not,it's that simple.

The person who told you that Win 10 has ads is either outright lying to you, totally misinformed, or has a computer that is just full of infection causing all those ads. Adware is malware infection and people get it on their computer when they don't have anti-malware protection on their computers. You can get adware on ANY computer - even your Win 7 computer - if you aren't protected.



The most popular #fakenews relative to Win 10 is that is some sort of spy machine that Microsoft uses to spy on people. This is my favorite story. When you hear that one, just remember this: the Federal Government uses Win 10 on all of their computers so if Microsoft was spying on them using it the Feds would have already arrested Microsoft folks and shut them down.



You are going to love Win 10. It looks just like Win 7 with some additional features. So quit worrying about this transition over. Windows 10 does not install adware. Whoever told you this is talking rubbish and some of the answers here are rubbish too.



There is a lot of bloatware installed with Windows 10 that is loaded based on what a lot of people use so it is loaded for ease of use and not for malicious purposes. All the bloatware can be removed and all will be fine. There are a lot of people who do not like the "privacy concerns" that Windows 10 has but if you adjust the settings you have nothing to worry about. Windows 10 is quite a good OS once you get used to it. The learning curve from Windows 7 to 10 is not that major.

You don't get ads in the Windows 10 start menu. If you want to prevent ads in your web browsing add Ad Blocker plus to your browser.

I have managed to remove most of the bloatware on win 10 and only update software as I choose to(I think). That made it more friendly, but I still prefer win 7. No updates have been allowed. Turned off any auto updating of windows or software. Also, there is tablet mode vs desktop mode to cause confusion. I disabled tablet mode, don't have a touch sceen. That helped a lot. You're left with a more win 7 feel. Win 10 feels more like a smart phone than previous.

Win 10 has mostly ads/promos from M$, eg for Bing, Edge, OneDrive, etc. Win 10 also preinstalls adware like Candy Crush.



The worst thing about Win 10 is M$'s forced auto-updates/upgrades(= unpaid beta-testers) and Telemetry & Data collection(= NSA spyware?).



Hence, I have also been forced by M$ into resorting to run the "unofficial" Win 10 Ent LTSC 2016 with a 3rd-party anti-spyware program. It is practically insane to run Win 10 Home or Pro or Ent.

....... Btw, as a low-value target or home-user, I plan to run Win 7 without updates until it falls off its wheels or around 2023, ie when Win 7 will become unsupported by many websites and programs. Eg Win XP only became practically unusable in 2017, ie about 3 years after EOL.

There is nothing wrong with windows 10. There are some bloatware that you can uninstall from the start menu after installation. Windows 10 is also very customizable you can pin alot programs and files that you had in windows 7 to the start menu and make it feel more like windows 7.

You don't get ads, but Win7 is still the best operating system and the safest, there is no bullshit, no mandatory updates and you still have privacy, all that goes out the window with Win10





It's a shame and hopefully something better comes out to challenge Win10 once Win7 is no longer operable, but yeah I'd say just stick with Win7.

That's bollocks. I have W7 and my wife has W10. She gets nothing like you describe. If you get ads in your browser, which is a different matter, you can always install Adblock Plus for free which suppresses annoying ads.

If yes- I would have thought that you might would use an OS like Ubuntu or Linux Mint? Then you wouldn't need to worry about all the issues with win 10.

I only installed windows 10 on second partition for games that requred windows 10...

I hate it! Seriusly windows 10 sucks! i would never trust it! Just to turn off updates its pain in the *ss... like turning services and editing registry files and some more bulls*it... Then even if you turn off UAC you still gets pop ups... and you still need to run some programs "right click > run as administrator" even if you are Admin and only user... wtp Microsoft... i hate it all background services and processes i don't have control... WINDOWS 7 RULES! i would never use w10 as main operation system - i don't trust it at all... i run it only when i need to play some games that not work on w7.

Bloatware is actually helpful, it just shows trending apps in the Start menu. It automatically installs apps others have used and you can access them in your Start menu (the litter windows logo button), but you can easily uninstall them in Settings.



Shadow is right, the learning curve from Windows 7 to Win 10 is not that major, however, if you are transitioning from Win 8, you will need to get used to it a LOT.
