How to run regression on excel with non-numeric data?

Question

I'm trying to run a regression analysis with a given set of data.
On one column (A1:A13), I have the months - jan, feb, marhc, and so on. This is the dependent variable
And on columns B and C's I have my independent variables.
I followed the exact step - go to data/data analysis/regression
and put in the correct range but I get error message saying I've included non-numeric data?
I'm assuming it's because of the months. How do I fix this?

You can't do a regression model fit with non-numeric data, it's statistically meaningless. You can do it with ordinal data - such as 1, 2, 3 etc for the months, which you have tried. It would be useful to know in what way the answer is different from what you should be getting.



Oh, and do you mean that the months are the independent variable?

sure .. its attainable... n the interface is likewise rather undemanding... (use the wizard)... n if something gets messd up.. use the inbuilt help... in basic terms create the table then choose the fields to plot on click on the graphs n charts button on the top...
