Okay, so i'm looking at upgrading from my dual-core HP Pavilion, which runs on Windows 7, to a new HP Pavilion with a quad-core processor. But, many new HP's run on Windows 8. I run many computer games such as Train Simulator 2013, Minecraft, Microsoft Flight Simulator X, etc. (Yes, i know i'm a mega geek! :)) I was wondering if anyone knew how those games work on Windows 8. I believe most of them were produced before Windows 8 came out. Thanks!

For a laptop with best a keyboard and mouse, windows 7. It's less difficult to use as a average laptop OS than Windows8. Though, rather, if the pc's that ancient, you would wish to persist with XP. Simply as with earlier windows releases, Win7 does eat up more system resources than XP does, and it's going to be extensively slower with Win7 than XP. The "safety holes" in XP are simply plugged if you allow the built-in firewall and opt for to not use web explorer. Windows8 is a little bit awkward with only a mouse and keyboard, and the venture manager is kind of vain in comparison with previous models. They geared windows8 in the direction of touch reveal prepared systems on the expense of the computer experience. With out a contact monitor, it feels notably more clumsy and no more developed. You do eventually get used to the short comings, however if in case you have the alternative and also you should not have a touchscreen, go together with windows7. If you happen to do have a touchscreen display, home windows eight.

minecraft runs on windows 8, and ever game i have tried runs just fine on windows 8.

I have yet to find any software or games that wont work with windows 8 (even ones that were made for windows 2000 or windows xp run w/o problems). And i never even had to run them in compatibility mode. (which you should know how to do that, its been there since vista, if the problem ever came up)

As for the interface, its not hard to get used to, in less then an hour i figured out everything and liked it. (im not sure where the win8 hate comes from really lol)

I think people hate windows 8, because its un-piratable :P

Btw when setting up windows, id recommend you use "custom settings" rather then "express settings". (someone i know did express, but it may have been something else, but it was a mess. i did it for them, and works flawlessly lol)

EDIT: i have experience with windows 8 (not the preview which everyone seems to base things on...)

It uses LESS cpu, LESS ram then windows 7, and run quite a bit faster....

And he isnt asking about upgrading to windows 8, are you people illiterate?

Hes wanting to buy a new laptop, and all the new laptops come with 8, hes asking if he should go for that, or find an older laptop with 7 (or buy win7 to replace the 8).

And no, windows 8 that is pre-installed should be left on, as 8 is better then 7 (in most all ways that ive seen).

It may be bad if you are retarded, and cant look up things like http://lmgtfy.com/?q=windows+8+tutorials

(my 46yr old aunt who hardly uses computers, and when she did it was like xp/7, figured it out w/o me helping at all... but shes intelligent and know how to use resources....)

So if you cant figure out win8, you may be retarded...

and the fact that 98% of windows 8 is IDENTICAL to windows 7.... the ONLY change is start menu is replaced by metro (which is better anyway, especially for laptops)

Only get it if your want to keep up with everyone (like people who buy I phones Pods Pads ETc Etc)

Its just Windows 7 with a more fancy GUI that eats up that extra 4GB of Ram that they didn't allow you to use in the 32 bit version of 7.

Forget about it. What you should really be asking is do I go 32 or 64 bit (either) I would go providing the hardware is up to it providing you have the drivers that work it does make for a faster all round experience.

Even surfing the web is faster escpecially with Chrome. All windows 8 will do is slow your pc down with all those graphics trying to copy the Tricorder out of Star Trek.

windows 7 and windows 8 are much diff rent. windows 8 is not nessesairly better, but DIFFERENT. if you want to go with the more cheaper one, i'd suggest windows 8:

windows 8 = 69,99

windows 7 = 229,99

it is like that because for a reason. because they are diff rent.

the games you want to play on your Computor also run on windows 8

so there you have it, windows 8 is newer, better, and cheaper.
