I use Xubuntu 9.04. It's not a RAM eater but Xorg that handles the graphics from time to time Munches anywhere from 24% to 90% CPU and the computer goes so slow. Someone recommended Puppy Linux, which is great but I want it to completely overwrite Xubuntu 9.04 and run from the HARD DRIVE. Abit like how Ubuntu runs.

The annoying thing is I had the ISO burnt to disc from Xubuntu 9.04 and when running Puppy from the CD is just led me to burning 2 other discs, which turned out to be irrelevant.

Is there ANY Linux Distros out there which are FAST, has low system requirements, has a desktop, and isn't just a terminal, an I'll use it or is there anyway Puppy can run from the Hard Drive and use my Entire 79.4gig hard drive?

Thanks

You CAN install Puppy. Check the articles on the left side of this page:

Believe it or not, I might also recommend Gnewsense, though it's Gnome

Um. I'm writing this on Gentoo which is fast. But it's DEFINITELY too technical for you. You might consider slackware though. That's economical.

Hello;

First let me say I am not an expert and some of what I am saying is guesswork.

My experience is that a computer with 256 megabytes of RAM is enough for Ubuntu Linux (I am using the Heron version). I like machines that are running at about 1000 mhz. They seem fast enough and are very easy to find.

The problem you might be having is that the machine is simply slow -- there is nothing you can do to make 500 mhz machine seem fast ... Volkswagons will not perform like Jaguars.

I might by wrong but the KDE interface might be part of the problem -- I think the Gnome is faster.

I want to point out that if you play with the system monitor, youl'll find that those numbers are a little bogus. If you make the window showing system usage smaller then it says it is using less resources.

There are distros out there that claim to be faster -- looks like you've done the research as far the software -- so I think your speed problems are hardware related.

Best of luck,

Bill

you already know a organic homestead windows customer spends on the factor of area his time to troubleshooting the approach, fearing viruses & diverse infections, know-how corruption, not uncomplicated rigidity crashes, and multiple others. and multiple others. A Mac by no ability crashes, isn't laid low with viruses which harm homestead windows OS's, has an software for on the factor of each and each task you may desire to take part in & has the friendly OS you would be waiting to discover on the 2nd. Mac is the friendly computer you would be waiting to get in case you tend to spend. The homestead windows Vista & 7 OS's have copied on the factor of all its new factors from the Mac OS-X which tells you the way nicely it particularly is. Linux nonetheless is homestead windows friendly & enables homestead windows to co-exist in an identical computer. yet homestead windows kills a Linux set up ought to you place up homestead windows over a Linux conventional computer. in case you particularly prefer to grant Linux a take a glance at, I advise you employ Linspire or Xandros OS which has the bargain you detect on a homestead windows computer. It in simple terms demands purely a splash time getting used to. yet, on an identical time as you get the carry of it, you may decide on Linux over homestead windows any day.

2.4 Ghz is low spec?

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements

I use different computers and mine is the fastest of them all - I don't wait for anything to load - it just pops straight up and this is only 2.5
