Skyrim installed and will launch then shut down at main menu?

Hi,
I have the hard copy of skyrim for pc. I have installed it properly and it is set up with steam fine. However my problem is that it will launch the game and you see the first screen which says Bethesda on it then it goes to the next screen which is the menu. It then instantly shuts down. Now i know i do not have the best computer for it but i'm sure it should still run. It had selected medium settings for me on install. Please someone help me so i haven't wasted my time or money buying this game. Thanks.

There seems to be a lot of people experiencing that problem. There is an audio workaround mentioned in the Bethesda forums that appears to be resolving the CTD issues for a lot of people, hopefully this will help you as well-

"Hey guys, I was having this problem too and just stumbled on a solution that worked for me at least.



My sound device in windows was set to output at 192khz 24bit. When I set this back to 44.1khz 16bit it fixed the problem!



So to check, in win7 go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound



Pick your sound device that is set as default, click Properties.

Go to the Advanced tab and make sure the 'Default Format' it is set to 44.1khz 16bit.



I actually was able to set mine to 96khz 24bit and it works aswell, just doesn't seem to like 192khz."

thanks littlecoo i had this problem then i set the audio to defaults n it worked many thanks :D
