There are various ways to acheve it. I dont know in what format your document it. But U can try the following options:

1. Purchase Adobe Acrobat Professional and use it to generate .pdf.

2. Use OepnOffice (www.openoffice.og) and directly save your document into .pdf. It's FREE and open source.

3. Use cutePDF (www.cutepdf.com). This is best FREE tool to my knowledge. Do remember to install the GhostScript available in their website. After installation, Open your program like MS-Word, then File>Print. Then select the PDF writer from the list of all printers installed in your system.

I hope this will help you

Acrobat Professional. Do not confuse this with Acrobat Reader, which only reads them.

Adobe's Acrobat Distiller can help with this. Also, if you're on a Mac, you can print your files directly to PDF by selecting the Save option from the print dialog. As for Windows drivers that let you do this, search on "PDF creation Windows" without the quotes and you'll see lots of options.

Adobe Acrobat Pro. You can also use Create Adobe PDF Online. And I think in the next version of Word, you will be able to save as PDF format as well. There are a bunch of options on the web - just search Google or Yahoo for "create pdf".

Adobe Acrobat is a read only program. Convert the file to something else (e.g. a word doc, open office doc) Make your changes Then save it (open office allows you to save it as a pdf) If you save it as word doc - there are web-based programs that will convert a word doc into pdf for free.
