Hi. I have a very big problem. I have a project at school and I have to make a newspaper, but the Microsoft Office suite is not helping me.

Does anybody know a software application which allows you to make a newspaper and then print it ? (You would help me even more if you'd tell me where to download it from).

I think you need a newsletter program (not newspaper) ... otherwise know as "desktop publishing" or "page layout" software.

The first link is to a page listing a number of higherend programs. The main feature of these programs is that they allow a WSIWYG (What you see is what you get) work environment to create a newspaper-like document (ie a grid of different blocks of graphics or text inserted in text boxes on the page that "flow" from the first box to another elsewhere on the page or on another page). That said, Word or CorelDraw (and many others) will allow mock-ups of a newsletter using text boxes and graphics.

One thing to keep in mind though is the file format of these programs is often proprietary and only readable by that program. If you are satisfied with print output that is not an issue.

You might want to try PagePlus SE ... although fairly basic it's free and may be all you need for a school project. A $10 "full" version is also available which allows pdf output (although this can be done from any program with a print function using one of the free pdf creator programs available).

An alternative is Scribus (see third link) ... an open source page layout software.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

In Word if you insert three columns. You could make it look like a newspaper. I copies this from my help file in word:

Create newsletter-style columns

Text in newsletter-style columns flows from one column to the next on the same page.

Switch to print layout view (print layout view: A view of a document or other object as it will appear when you print it. For example, items such as headers, footnotes, columns, and text boxes appear in their actual positions.).

Select the text you want to format in columns:

An entire document

On the Edit menu, click Select All.

Part of the document

Select the text.

Existing sections

Click in a section (section: A portion of a document in which you set certain page formatting options. You create a new section when you want to change such properties as line numbering, number of columns, or headers and footers.) or select multiple sections.

On the Standard toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, press ALT and then SHIFT+F10.), click Columns .

Drag to select the number of columns you want.

Use something like Microsoft publisher. Get the font the same as the newspaper! Then you have to print on at least A3 - so maybe getting the right printer will be your biggest problem. Good luck - there in money in it.
