I am looking for a friendly, attractive Linux distribution with quick program updates.?

Does one like this exist? I am currently on Ubuntu, but I crave the quick and easy program updates of Windows and OSX... problem is, I love Linux! I also love KDE and all the Open Source apps, and dislike m$ and Apple, I don't really wanna switch.

Are there any options? Fedora seems to be one, but I have always found it a little buggy and not as friendly as Ubuntu either.

Any thoughts? :)

Ubuntu certainly has a very active dev community, and as such releases updates quite regularly. I'd stick with it.

I've also used openSuse (slow to release with limited support options), and Fedora (wonderfully stable, some quirks). Most of the systems I've done on *nix though aren't desktop oriented; primarily server, no X, only access through SSH shells etc.

For ease of use, Ubuntu is the star. I'm currently using slackware and gentoo. That latter downloads the source code for programs and custom-compiles it for your computer. This morning it spent about an hour downloading and compiling Seamonkey-1.1.18. Of course when you RUN it it is much faster than anything, but downloading and compiling is slo-ow.

For speed, generally Debian and its derivatives -- including Ubuntu -- is the star. So live with what you get.

By the way, the reason why it's more time consuming with Ubuntu is that security updates are more frequent. It's the price you pay for having a reliable system.

You're not going to get much better than Ubuntu in my opinion. However if you really want to play around many distro's can be installed from CD without altering your hard drive. You can try them out that way. One I suggest you try for fun is Puppy Linux which you can install on a USB drive. Handy to carry with you, you can use it on any computer that can boot from USB.

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 7 Main Edition which is built upon Ubuntu 9.04 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 7 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation

Linux Mint 7 can also be run direct from the LiveCD from Booting up without touching your Hard Drive

Are you using synaptic to get your ubuntu program updates? That is very easy and trouble free.

If you are not happy with synaptic could you explain how it is not the quick and easy updater like windows?

Good luck
