Since you are familiar to Movie Maker,I think you can try DVD Slideshow Builder,Same sort of layout as Movie Maker however a lot more powerful with video effects like Brightness contrast, Blur, Carve , Embossment, Flash,Red Green Blue,Levels,Ribbon,Old Photo, etc.Everything is laid out in an easy to follow step by step instruction.

250+ picture movie styles, custom transition and pan/zoom effects.

Edit photos and videos with built-in tools, like crop, rotate, apply effects, etc

One-click to auto-synchronize video and audio

You can get a free trial here:

Other program that will be help:

Virtual dub & AviDemux

Both are free,AviDemux is good at simple cutting-split-merge, filtering and encoding tasks.Including a variety of codecs.

I'd like to recommend AVS Video Editor to you, I always use it to edit video and make funny video for uploading to Youtube, it's easy to use and the quality is awesome, you can crop, cut, join, edit video with it easily. It also embeds many special effects, you can even add text to video or add background music, that's pretty cool. It worth a try

Hope it helps. Contact me if you have any other question

Hey Trent,

Try out trakAxPC Pro. It's aimed at the novice user but has all the features of a professional software.

It's a really good and user-friendly video editing software which allows you to edit and mix any combination of audio, video and photos. It has loads of features like effects, text, split screen, reverse, slow-motion, zoom, etc, plus you can upload your video directly to YouTube through the application.

You can check it out here: http://www.trakax.com/software/pc/

Hope this helps.

if it's light video editing you need, programs liek Sony vegas are probably overkill. Sony makes a muc hcheaper version that will do the trick for hundreds less. another free option that is also overkill but still free is lightworks
