because apparently windows looses all of the upload with time and you have to keep refreshing it to keep it running smoothly and linux you don't have to

Linux can be better in the right circumstances or for the right users, but no flavor of Linux is quite ready for the average home user yet. There's a phrase in the web/PC world that goes like this... "Does it pass the mom test?" Meaning, can you put the average non computer user in front of the OS and with minimal guidance expect them to get things done and understand it? The answer with Linux is no.

Take for example the simple task of installing the latest Flash plug-in (a common requirement these days when browsing the web) - For Ubuntu and many popular distros it requires opening a terminal window and even recompiling the install package for the kernel you're using. Certainly not easier to use than Windows.

But if you get a user who knows what they're doing and enjoys having that level of control over their OS then Linux is fantastic and it's certainly lighter and nimbler than Windows. It's also far more secure.

So when people say that, you have to ask them in what way they mean it?

linux based on Unix keeps it core OS locked away from the apps and does not crash as badly as windows. Anyone who really wants to, can crash any system by loading software not intended for a given system.

being open source app writers and coders can add to or modify the program and as in Fedora contribute to the next release.

you are not forced to upgrade, yes it will not be supported after a while but still usable.

you are not contributing to the Make Bill Gate richer society

Unlike windows, the coding for the operating system is completely open to editing. So (if you understand how its all done, i havnt got a clue) you can tweak and adjust the OS until it is just how you want it. You can also download loads of free updates that other people have made to help improve it. Also.....its free :-D

Have you tried some 'mini' linux that runs off a flash driver or what? Try Ubuntu or Solaris (Which I actually think isn't free...) and you'll see Linux isn't all that buggy. And don't practice your ABCs in the Terminal.

I know I will get banned the first ******* minute! But still...I will go for it! First of all...all linuxes...except the fags from RedHat are free! SOLARIS is ****...but free and UBUNTU is free! Now...why is it better then Windows?? I will tell you why...

1.it is open source...meaning you can do anything you want with it!

2.It is not made by Microsoft

3.It is stable...meaning it does not freeze

4.it is free
