I'd like to learn video editing this year so could someone tell me what's the best free video editing software? One that can do things Adobe After Effects can do and has a lot of useful tools but is completely free. I'd like to do things like animating, motion graphics, kinetic typography, movie making, and a lot more. Thank you.

I bought 3 different Sony Vegas Pro versions on Craigslist between $20 to $45, VERY well worth it. I'm VERY computer literate & it took me about a year to learn it, then another whole year to use what I learned much faster. I hear Adobe is double the learning curve as well. I would get Sony Vegas pro on Craigslist, be sure you look up the minimum system requirements to be sure your computer can handle it, if it's right on the line I'd opt for a lower version not the pro 13. They really aren't much different from one another.

Here are some links, you might look closer to your area as well.

Pro 11 $40

Pro 13 $25

This is about as close to free as possible & really is terrific.

I hear Blender is a good free software but more for animation & making custom characters.

Spending around $25 really is worthwhile on the Pro 13 if your PC meets requ. Pretty darn close to free compared to buying it for near $700.

I hope this helps :0)

"I'd like to do things like animating, motion graphics, kinetic typography, movie making, and a lot more."

You can do all those things with Blender.

Blender; $0 or $10/month (Cloud Service)

http://blender.org

Blender has a complete VFX pipeline in one single software package.

Blender has tools similar to Maya (animation), 3ds Max (modifiers), ZBrush (sculpting), FumeFX (fire and smoke), RealFlow (fluids), RayFire (destruction), Mocha (planar tracking), Boujou (matchmoving), Arnold (rendering), After Effects (motion graphics), and Nuke (compositing).

All of these tools are far from perfect, but they're getting better every day.

Blender is FREE with full functionality and you're allowed to use Blender in any production without having to pay for anything.
