Well Bharath, you say that you need to upgrade to Win 8.1 and I will ask WHY? It is not required to do the upgrade and for the most part I would recommend that you don't do it. I have read nothing but whining and crying from many, many people who did the upgrade and now have nothing but problems with this app or that app or several apps. Guess what, they can't undo the upgrade because part of the upgrade takes that possibility away from you. Microsoft is working toward a system whereas they will decide what you can and can not do with your computer and charge you annual fees to do so, don't believe me, Microsoft Office is no longer able to be purchased from them and most major retailers, you can get Office 365 which is a one year license and next year you buy another one year license. So I will recommend that you look elsewhere for third party software to get your Win8 computer to do what you want it to. You can get Libre Office(similar to Microsoft Office) as a free download from www.libreoffice.org and there are several good ones that will get you a real "Start Button" back, I use "Start Menu 8" from www.iobit.com and not only do I get a functional "Start Button" but also a full "Start Menu" and pretty much everything that gives me that Win7 look and feel to my Win8 computer with yet another free download.

Good Luck, don't do it, keep your chin up and may the sun always shine upon your day.

Make sure your W8 OS is first activated and all updates are up to date.

Make sure your W8 is activated and it's to your advantage to setup a MS Hotmail or Outlook Online Account in order for you APPS to work.

Activation → Right click the START Icon → SYSTEM → scroll down to Windows Activation

Set up your Windows Live Account → CHARMS Menu(bottom RH corner) → Settings → Change PC Settings → USERS → Your Account & setup

From the Desktop screen → Windows Key + W → enter USER in search

Click USERS on search results → "Your Account" & setup

You will be asked how to would like to obtain your code → Text or an email account

For example if you enter your Yahoo email as the source, then go to your Yahoo Mail Inbox to retrieve this message from MS →

Here is your code: 8****66

If you didn't request this code, we recommend that you go to https://account.live.com and change your password.

Thanks,
