I know nothing about apple technology, I use a lap top to browse the internet for social browsing or work and I use microsoft packages for academic stuff and work.

Today it has been put to me that I may need to start using apple technology and I am curious whether I can use my usb keys or memory disc drives on apple equipment and if these packages would work: - Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Powerpoint..

I have never been trained in the use of apple technology or its products, in fact I don't even know if my yahoo email could be accessed using an apple ipad or apple tablet.

I do remember recently being told in a shop that apple blocks a lot of other technology from being used on their machines unless you buy a lot of expensive equipment to go with it. Which for me kind of defeats the objective of keeping things simple and economical.

Has anyone got any information about this?

I am also curious if you use apple technology for say word processing will the documents you create here open within micosoft or windows?

As a long time mac user, I have realised that macs and PCs are very similar in many ways. So if you're buying a mac, They're very user friendly. You can buy Microsoft Office for mac from the apple store and I believe online too. So yes... if you buy Microsoft office for a mac then the files will work on it.

Apple has an alternative to Microsoft Office which in someways is better, Its called iWork and its cheaper than Microsoft Office I believe.

Read these sites for more info on iWork:

http://www.apple.com/iwork/

http://www.apple.com/iwork/compatibility/

That second link will explain what I have written in further detail. So you can get Word and PowerPoint on macs but in my opinion iWork is a better alternative when using a mac as you can open word files and save files so they are compatible with word.

Hope this helps :)

Edit: Just found this link for Microsoft Office for mac:

Expertise stored inside a computer's reminiscence is in either of two forms, programs or knowledge. Applications are a series of instructional materials (in pc language) that the microprocessor on your computer follows to do something, like play a recreation, be an working process, drivers to your printer or such. Knowledge is understanding. Your MP3 records are knowledge. Your homework that you typed in phrase is a knowledge file. Spreadsheets, powerpoint displays... They're all information.. Here is the place the road blurs... Packages can contain some information inside them... Like phrase knows that you simply at all times like Ariel 10pt sort. Websites include the entire know-how for what you see, but they may additionally contain applications which mean you can fill in varieties, or routinely calculates whatever for you without having to return to the online. Years in the past engineers wrote pc applications in desktop code, the specific 1s and 0s that the desktop reads. Now since the programs are becoming more and more complex, they're written in high-degree languages or through other programs and interpreted via the laptop. Everything you see and do with a laptop is created by way of some form of engineer... From the mechanical case, the microprocessor, the home windows operating method, your word processing application.. To an online web page.. Engineers do it all... Engineers additionally create the packages which control your microwave, your washing desktop, car, GPS, or mp3 participant... It's a giant subject. I hope this helps.

The version of Microsoft Office that's used on Windows cannot be run on Macs. However, Microsoft makes MS Office for Mac. The current Windows version is Office 2010, while MS Office for Mac 2011 is the current Mac version. Files created by one can be opened and modified on the other. Practically anything that you can do on a Windows machine you can also do on a Mac. Whoever told you that Apple blocks technology on their machines was misinformed.

Take a look at http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/ for info on how Macs work and how to do basic tasks on them. It's not that different from Windows.
