Question:
What program opens .FTW files?

What programs open a .FTW file type? It's an old family tree file I have, but I can't find anything to open it and I can't remember what I used before.

Thanks

Document Files (which are respective to the hierarchical nature of File Grouping in an OS) open with the .ftv extension provided they fall under the direct supervision of the user ( such as personally documented files)--.FTV stands for Family Tree Maker for Windows

There's not much information available regarding this extension which forms an unnoticed but rather essential part of our digital life.

FTW files belongs to a program called Family Tree Maker.

Other programs that uses the same file format includes Font Twister and Form Tool Pro

You've got some great answers. Just to expand on the reasoning of why you can go one way but not the other: Genealogical files take GEDCOMs. This is a database structure. Database structures store relationships, like a 2D or 3D model. They cannot accept PDF, DOC, or TXT type files because these are a document structure. Document structures are linear, store character strings, and do not store relationships between data. Genealogical software can print or save to document type files because they are essentially printing a report. To help with the conversion: Also, even though you have 221 pages, I'd suppose much of the information is duplicated. (e.g. Sally Smith is daughter of Brian Smith, wife of Ben Jones, and mother of 4 children each listed.) Once you put Sally Smith b. 1960 d. 2010 into the genealogical software once, you don't have to do it again. You simply connect her to the others. Depending on the original format and your PDF software you could copy and paste the information rather than retyping it all. This is the fastest way.

A genealogical program accepts GEDCOM FILES. And you cannot convert pdf to gedcom. Sorry. Your friend/relative that sent it, probably is proud of their work but they failed to do it in any compatible format.

You can use this software from this site:

http://www.familytreemaker.com/

I believe once it was free but not anymore, you may have to buy this product now. Option available on this site.

You can also use a viewer to see your file (based on the version it was made) at this location:

Hope it helps.
