I want to start sampling music - can anyone recommend a good, free program that I can use to mix tracks and add beats etc? Pref something simple because I'm just a newbie! Cheers

there are "some" things which are free. but well you pay for what you get at the end of the day in a lot of cases..

perhaps buy computer music mag for a start.. that has a sequencer on the cover disk and some other bits.

as for audio editing.. audacity, which you can download free

u could buy something like reason or fruityloops or a light version of cubase or ableton

a lot of ASIO soundcards / m-audio keyboards come with a lite version of ableton live.. you need a decent soundcard for a start, the bog standard ones don't cut the mustard.

me i use cubase 4+ reason 3, neither are cheap, but i look at them as tools of my trade, so i need em.

have a look at

Its worth making an investment. Get a copy of fruity loops. Its simple, kind of. But bear in mind that because you are combining several jobs together (composer, arranger, producer and engineer) it will take a while to learn and the curve will be steep.

Programs like that are not free but but try looking for fruity loops and put the serial number in it. that's the one i have for making beat and for downloading music, movie and more i have ares.

He said
