My HP computer will not download Windows Automatic Updates. Somehow they got turned off, and the computer will not let me turn them back on. I have even gone to the Automatic Updates website and tried to download/install from there, but nothing works. I have scanned the computer for both viruses and spyware; it tested negative. I have tried to install the updates with the firewall down, which made no difference. I am currently on a large network and I believe the fact that Windows has not updated is causing my computer to randomly freeze completely (which it had no prior history of doing.). I would appreciate an accurate and informed answer. Thank you.

your network administrator may have disabled Windows Updates using a group policy. Otherwise make sure you're signed in as an admin on your computer

you've various concepts in replace: completely automated - downloads and installs itself Partial - downloads itself - you tell it even as to position in Self - tells you it desires to acquire and installation - and also you compromise (or do not) at each and every step. once you've service %. 2, it will be obtainable less than : Settings --> administration Panel--> safe practices middle in the different case, that's less than administration Panel, as domicile windows replace. evaluate that you'll "acquire" a clean audio participant on your pc. then you should "installation" it to apply it. it really is an similar. I merely did a complete sparkling re-installation of XP, and the updates are loopy -- very last evening there have been 40 8! I have a short cable connection, so that's ok. i'm being affected man or woman with this, in view that those updates are meant to make the computing gadget run smoother and be more beneficial seem after -- we are going to see, lol. If it receives too annoying, i will merely set it to self-run, and do the updates per week, or month, or i will ignore and my computing gadget will explode -- oh nicely... strong success :)

Hi, Luvtheelves - Could you provide a bit more information, please? are you running XP? Do you have Service Pack 2 installed? Is your copy of XP a legal copy?

Have you been able to run them in the past? If so, what has changed on your system since the last time you've done updates? Have you installed new software, changed any configuration settings?

Are your antivirus and spyware programs running the current data files?

These answers will help us help you. :)

If you've got your system set to do restore points you could roll back to the last good configuration and see if your updates will run after doing so.

Hope that helps! :)

I assume by what you have said that you have gone to Start - Control Panel and ensured that Automatic updates is turned on.

If so I can only suggest that there may be a firewall on the network or another network problem. Anyone else having the problem?

Sorry I cannot be more specific

I assume you are running Windows XP. If so this is what you need to do to solve your problem:

1)go to start

2) control panel

3) performance and maintenance

4) system, once clicked on, you will see a system properties window, inside that window you will see a tab AUTOMATIC UPDATES, click on that tab,and under settings choose how you would like to have the updates applied, once you choose, click apply and ok.

5) This should solve you issue. Hope this has helped out.

MOST PROBABLY YOU ARE USING A PIRATED WINDOWS VERSION.

MICROSOFT HAS STOPPED ALL UPDATES TO PIRATED VERSIONS
