Open Office
but it should've been installed when you put Ubuntu on your computer. odd....
just search for it in Synaptic. it's there. if it isn't checked in, then check it and install it.

open office writer - part of open office suite is half baked product
see my question that i posted here in answers
it is no match for word
use wine - windows emulator and run word in it - open office writer gets no serious job done and i'm writer
there is also koffice - never tried it but hopefully it is better than open office writer

Check out www.openoffice.org
It has word, excel and everything else you could need! It also allows you to open .docs as well as many other file extensions.
You can also use it for windows!

Get OpenOffice - you can download it at http://www.openoffice.org/ I've been using it on OpenSuSE for quite a while.
