Adobe Photoshop is the professionals choice, but it comes at a hefty price.
Gimp is the best free option in my opinion.
Both programs have a high learning curve and will take time to master. I suggest reading tutorials and watching youtube videos on whichever program you choose.

Adobe Photoshop CS4 is the creme de l. a. creme, however very costly and difficult. They would possibly present a take a look at then purchase alternative. Adobe Photoshop Elements is a pleasant product - a subset of the whole Photoshop that many non-execs use. It entails a few of the great elements. Same seller. Check their internet site for a take a look at then purchase plan. Adobe Lightroom could also be pleasant. But does not manage 'layers' just like the Photoshop methods. But it is satisfactory for organizing and categorizing photographs as good as RAW photograph processing and preliminary step JPG processing.
