I just purchased the new avid pro tools se for my computer at home, I'm used to using the pro tools 8 le at my school, so when I went to purchase the pro tools for home, the sales person at guitar center told me se had the entire pro tools software and that the only difference was the interface size, so i'm just wondering, where do I find the plugins or the audiosuite so I can actually edit my tracks past just cutting them, do any plugins come with the pro tools se? Do i need to go purchase them separately?

Pro Tools SE is an introductory version of Pro Tools (the SE stands for starter edition). It is a limited version and has a lower track count and various other hinderances. I was under the impression that it still came with plug-ins/audiosuites/etc...

If you check out this link it says that it still has all the effects though, so I imagine they're in the same place as the version of LE you use at school?

You'll also notice (towards the bottom) that it says that you cannot add any additional plug-ins. That should answer your second question.

I'm a Pro Tools LE user myself. I just learned that SE is quite new and appears to be a scaled down version of Pro Tools LE. Here is some information on that ... http://www.sonicscoop.com/2010/09/16/avid-announces-pro-tools-se-family-of-music-creation-tools/ - So, it appears to me that you may have to purchase separately what you need which is a shame because purchasing Pro Tools LE gives them to you for less than purchasing them separately. The best LE deal has always been to purchase the Factory Bundle but the new 3rd Gen Pro Tools does not appear to have that option. You might see if you can return it since it sort of sounds like the salesman may have misled you into purchasing a version that was less than what you wanted. Most dealers however will not take software returns if the seals are broken. If you decide to keep it and shop for plug-ins, take a look at the WAVE plug-ins, they are far superior to AVID's in terms of sound quality.

I don't get the "Download" part. You have to have the hardware to go with it to run Pro Tools. If the installation does not find the hardware, it will not install. Every time I reformat my computer, then go to reinstall Pro Tools, I always forget to re-attach the M-Box to complete the install. I always have to stop, find it, & rehook it. If you don't have the necessary hardware, it will not install. I guess that's their security feature. If you didn't buy it, just downloaded the program from the web, it won't work, even with serial numbers. You MUST have the required hardware that comes with it. You can of coarse, upgrade the hardware, but again, it must be THEIR hardware.
