I'm having a real nightmare today with trying to fix some tables within word. Not sure if this makes sense but basically I have a number of tables within my document and notice that some of the columns jump to the next again page leaving half of the page blank but it does not allow me to delete the break so that the table joins together. I've tried to split the table in the hope that this would work but it's as if the table is locked and it's preventing me from joining it all together.

Does anyone have any ideas?

If you don't mind having half a row on one page and half on the next, this might help. (This is for Word XP (2002) and should work for adjacent versions. Word Vista (2007) is probably not too different.)

1. Click in the Table.

2. Click the Table->Select->Table menu item to select the entire table.

3. Click the Table->Table Properties menu item.

4. Click the Row tab.

5. Check the Allow row to break across pages checkbox.

6. Click OK.

That should do it.

Creating tables and manipulating them is very easy in word.

You have the option of using tha user interface icon which provides you witha pencil with which you can create the table

or you can also use the keyboard. The method is quite simple.

add "+" where you want to start the table and "-" denoting the width and end it with a "+" and hit enter at last

example

+----------+------------------------------------------------+------------------+

The above example would produce three colums and hit the tab key for extra rows.

In your case check the data within each cell. There may be hidden space, return carriage commands. To find them out Switch on the Paragraph option in Format toolbar. Remove uneccessary paragraphs and insert line breaks instead.

This should solve your problem.
