Question:
Looking for multi-user email client?

We currently have an ageing Windows XP machine that's shared by 3 people. For simplicity, we deliberately do not have separate Windows user accounts. We use Outlook Express for email. OE allows us to have separate user 'identities', which can be password protected, and each user's mail files can be stored in separate Windows folders.

We have just purchased a new Windows 7 machine, but I am having severe difficulty in finding an email client that provides the same functionality. Unfortunately, OE is not available on W7. The closest I have found so far are Pegasus & MailCOPA. Pegasus provides for multiple users, with mail files stored in separate Windows folders, but the user accounts are not password protected. MailCOPA provides for multiple user accounts which can be password protected, but users' mail files are stored in a single database & it is not possible to easily move a user's mail files to another machine (eg. to a laptop when they're going away for a few days).

Has anyone experienced these same issues & does anyone know of an email client that will suit this situation?

Outlook Express is no longer shipped with windows, but it's updated version is available in the form of Windows Live Mail. You'll find the identities system included pretty much identical to that of OE.

For some reason the techs at Microsoft dropped Outlook Express/Live Mail from Windows 7.

Yet you can still download it for Windows 7, and it does work.

If your already aware of 'multi-user' environments in Outlook and other emailing clients like Windows Live Mail then I shouldn't need to explain what to do when you need to input your email providers POP, IMAP or SMTP server information along with possible additional security information.

Also, another aspect of Live Mail you might not of been aware of, it's just Outlook Express with a fancier user interface, so if your an Outlook veteran like myself, you'll be just fine holding multiple email accounts on one mail client.

Well, OE was replaced by Windows Live Mail and is now part of the Windows live essentials package, a free download.

Re your letter and the CV I've read both are exceptional. The only thing about both is they are a little too long and both lack something about you as a person, not just a representation of the high flying academic/applicant (which you clearly are!). So would suggests a Interests and Pastimes heading - would bring you alive a bit as an individual. Good luck - Ive no doubt you'll be fine.

One word = GMAIL

A million people can use it on the same computer, and you never run out of space.
