Why are they making it such a pain in the butt????????

I insert several section breaks. There are totally four sections in my document: cover page, before content, content, and appendices. I need no page number for cover page and before content. I need arabic page numbers for the content, and I need i,ii,iii style page numbers for appendices.

I successfully made content start with 1 as I put "start with 0" in "format page numbers" dialog. But for the appendices part, I can only make it start with "ii". I don't know what the number is before "ii". What should I do to make the first page of appendices to start with "i"?

Thank you a lot. Otherwise I just want to kill myself while doing numbering the pages.

Click in the header or footer depending upon where the page numbers are to activate the header or footer. Go to where you entered the 0 and delete it. Go to the General Section and click on the Design Tab and click on Link To Previous to de-select it. Now, click on Page Number and insert the page number where you want. Now click on Page Number again and click on Format Page Numbers and near the bottom of the dialogue box click on Start At and enter 1 click OK.

Go to the appendices, and repeat the instructions above to unlink the section from the General Section and to insert the page numbers and to start the page numbers a "i".

Go to Insert - Page Numbers and click on the small arrow below where it says Page Numbers and select Format Page Numbers.

Do it there.
