I have seen many programmers and many computer experts saying and telling that its more powerful than windows. But I personally do not find it more powerful.I want to know in which way its more powerful.I used Ubuntu Os and I liked it but when it comes to software's all are crappy and doesn't has many features than that I use in Windows .Eg In skype that I use in windows supports facebook chat while skype in ubuntu doesn't.While trying to customize the desktop by compiz it crashes often .

Of course not. The ultimate measure of a computers power is what it can run. There is NO other O.S. that can perform all the tasks Windows is capable of. All of them put together couldn't come close. I program complex, one off industrial machines with a Windows laptop. The companies I work for use Windows for their production advertising and packaging graphics art, drafting, office work, etc. How many people with anything other than Windows can do this, turn around at break time and play a few rounds of portal 2, go home and maybe do some adobe photoshop, chat, etc etc etc all on the same laptop? That's beauty and power all rolled into one! Anyone who disagrees knows little or nothing of what Windows is actually capable of. As far as how Windows is easily attacked and infected, I have NO problems keeping mine up to par. If you can't run a computer without fouling it up, you have no business touching ANY of them and should stick with a cell phone data plan. Computers don't foul themselves up, people do.

Overall a Linux based platform can perform most of the tasks equally as well as a proprietary platform using OSS including an excellent preinstalled comprehensive Office Suite called LibreOffice

There is really no reason to use a proprietary platform these days with the exception of High End gaming which will always be the achilles heel of Linux. Otherwise Windows is all but reduntant which is becoming increasingly evident particularly where users upgrading from XP are switching to Linux permanently

I thoroughly recommend the Linux Mint 11 which is based upon Ubuntu 11.04 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled including Skype/Chat support

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 11 then you need to create a Bootable LiveDVD

Linux Mint 11 can also be run straight from the LiveDVD without touching your Hard Drive

Hmm, well...

Most of the most powerful supercomputers (in terrms of total operations/second) run Linux because the licence cost per core is zero, and it works well with message-passing software and headless nodes (with no monitor or keyboard).

It appears that of the top 500 supercomputers, 1 runs Windows and 455 run Linux

Recent Linux versions support multicore processors, large memory, large disks, and fast filesystems. But then, so do recent Windows versions

"Best" Linux distro ? RHEL and CENTOS are popular in commercial and scientific applications because they are stable and don't keep going out of maintenance in 6 months. The downside is that they often don't work on brand-new hardware releases, and don't have the latest libraries and personal use software.

Windows gives users serious limitations, while Linux is just as powerful as the end-user.

Windows is populer and wordwide used but linux in mostly used by hackers and programers. Thus ever programing work is done by linux.
