Upon start up keep pressing f2, f8 or f11 depending on your system > go into BIOS > boot in safe mode > http://windows7themes.net/how-to-replace-explorer-exe-in-windows-7.html

Also > type in the windows search bar for example HP restore, Sony restore, Acer restore to see if it has a factory settings restore program.

Maintaining your computer:

Control panel > Programs and features > remove all unwanted programs, make sure you know what it is your removing.

1. Left click on C drive> properties/run windows disc cleaner

2. Download Ccleaner from here: http://www.filehippo.com/

3. Install Ccleaner and run the cleaner top left, then run the registry cleaner below it on the left. you don’t need to backup the registry

4. Left click on C drive> properties>Tools> check now/disc scanner or in the case of Vista it’s called something else > tick both boxes > start, Prompt the scanner to scan upon next reboot and REBOOT COMPUTER)

#(Prepare to wait up to an hour)#

5. After Disk scan/Disk check has finished run windows Disc Cleaner again, Ccleaner again and registry cleaner again.

6. Then you must do a DEFRAGMENTAION of C drive which is START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>TOOLS>DEFRAGMENTATI…

Additional options: If an unpaid version, remove curent antivirus first.

If you have the original CD of your operating system use it to install a fresh copy.

You will then need to install the hard drive controller driver as well as the Intel chip-set driver/Mother board drivers. Then you will need to install all the peripheral drivers. I.E Sound card and graphics card.

If you don't have the recovery disk.

explore.exe refers to Windows Explorer and it is a very important piece of the OS.

If you can access internet, Microsoft Fix-It center might be able to fix it.

http://fixitcenter.support.microsoft.com/Portal

If you can't access internet, you will need the original Windows cd:

1-insert the CD in the drive and wait for the prompt screen;

2-shut the prompt screen and go to Start/Run

3-type in the box "sfc /scannow" (without the quotation marks) ;

4- wait several minutes for the program to complete its task.

Should neither of these solutions work, beware: the file explore.exe must necessarily come from a Microsoft source because there is a known malware by the same name.

If you happen to do it again ever, instead of restarting your computer, on task manager click File > Run then type explorer.exe. You will then have your desktop back :)
