Yes, if your anti-virus / anti-spyware reports that the trojan / spyware have been successfully deleted, it means that they have been removed from your PC. Of course, there are some software which can stay hidden in your PC from most security software(they integrate with the EXPLORER.EXE process) and generate trojans!! To make sure that your computer is fully clean, I will recommend using Spyware Terminator as your anti-spyware, Avast! Home Edition as your anti-virus, A-Squared Free as your anti-trojan and Comodo as your firewall. All of these are free, and together they will provide rock solid protection for your system. Remember to use the Real Time shield of Avast! and ST.

P.S. Disable the HIPS feature of ST. Also, uninstall EVERY security software that you are using now, before you get the above mentioned ones.

A trojan is usually a fake program that installs itself on your hard drive but it cannot be uninstalled using the usual methods like Add/Remove programs via Control panel.

Trojans can be disabled relatively easily but removing all trace of them is more complex. You may need to get several programs to remove every trace of them. I had a trojan once and I thought I had removed everything and then I was advised to get hold of a registry cleaning program I had never heard of before and it found a further 94 entries for the trojan in my registry.

Get hold of a copy of HijackThis and run a scan. Post the results to a hijackthis forum and get some expert advise on what programs you require to remove the trojan.

This is very tricky to answer. What a lot of trojans to is disguise themselves in multiple places throughout your system. If you used a program like Norton to remove it, you might have gotten it all. If you did it manually, you probably didn't.

Do you know the name of the trojan you had? If it was one of the really tricky ones we can search for specific removal instructions. Some of them, if you don't delete the files in the right order, one file will replace the one you just removed and you'll be in a vicious loop.

your antivirus will attempt to delete trojans, but sometimes they can just quarantine. make sure you get the latest updates for your anti-virus. then rescan. if you still can't get rid of the trojans, you might have to reformat. good luck!
