I know exactly what you mean for I cannot stand things like this either and I can only think to go back to an earlier time when it was not there, for I have no idea if it will stay or go. But it is still there on my husband's computer.

I was happy with windows 7 as well, but could not stand the icon there and so, asked around and did some research and weighed up the pros and cons and took the plunge and HATED it lol sooo different from windows 7, but saw that I could revert back to windows 7 and so did, but things were going wrong and so, I decided that really, I was not giving windows 10 a fair chance and so, downloaded it again and actually after taking a bit of time to get used to it, found I LOVED it. Then, I had to get a new laptop and that was windows 8 with the option of windows 10 and so, went through the process again and then, something happened, which caused my NEW laptop needed to be looked at and the guy advised me to not download windows 10. So I tried to get used to windows 8 but HATE windows 8 and no matter how I tried to get used to it, could not get on with it; not having the start button was just nasty. Found that if I had the key to my computer, I could download windows 7 but it seemed so complicated and saw that I still had the icon for windows 10 and so, against advice, downloaded it and that is what I am using now and love it!

So, if you can find a way to get rid of the icon, I would try that, otherwise, like me, you need to take the plunge and download windows 10 and actually, I really like it. Very easy to find things and funnily enough, when I tried to put my bluetooth loud speak on my laptop with windows 7, it refused to play and yet, happened straight away with windows 10. Windows 10 is a combination of windows 7 and 8.

Go to your Windows update history. Do a search for KB3035583 (search makes it faster). Or scroll thru the list until you find it, whichever way you prefer. Right click on it, select uninstall.

But then you need to set your windows updates to "check for updates but let me decide whether to download and install" so that when this KB comes back again (and it will) you can HIDE it. Otherwise, you'll just be in a circle as you uninstall it, and it reinstalls, over and over and over. Once you capture the KB and hide it, then you can set your windows updates settings back to "automatic" if you like. I keep mine on the setting of ' let me decide whether to download and install ' because I like full control of my windows updates.

One thing though: IF Win 10 has already downloaded, and it's just wanting you to install it, that's a whole different bear. You didn't clarify, so the steps above are just for those people who have NOT downloaded it yet. IF you have downloaded, and it wants you to set off installation, then you'll need to go to a system restore to a date just prior to this starting. That will get rid of the download. Then, using the above steps about the KB update, make sure your windows update settings are on 'let me decide....etc' once you see KB3035583 come in, HIDE it. This will prevent the Win 10 from downloading again.

No but you can install it. Seriously, install Windows 10. There is absolutely no reason not to. It's a ton faster and is a lot better than 7

Whatever you do don't touch it.. (if you want to keep your windows 7) none of that "well, I can download it and always choose to upgrade if if I want to later". . . . rrrrrrrright.
