Question:
Why won't my video play in Windows media player?

Hey guys, I have a quick question that is probably very each to answer.

So I run a youtube channel. I haven't done a video in a little while but recently I decided to get back at it and put some stuff together. Anyway, I was throwing some footage into windows movie maker, and then some audio commentary I recorded. Everything went fine so far, I reviewed it and saved it as a "WMV" file. Essentially that file format is MADE to be compatible with windows media player, however it doesn't work.

I get an error saying "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

Now, the PVR that I use to record my footage brings it out in mp4 format. That file works when I click on it. Windows media player has no trouble playing that. However once I put it into movie maker and then add my commentary (Which never was a problem before), it doesn't play. I'm currently in the process of uploading the video to youtube to see if it works.

Also, I imported that same video back into movie maker and it worked there and played through (which is why I'm trying the youtube upload).

Does anyone know whats going on? I would greatly appreciate some help.

Thank you for your time.

1. Ensure that your Windows Media Player (WMP) is updated. (Help > Check for Updates...)

2. Ensure that you have checked that particular file type. (Tools > Options... > File Types)

3. If the aboved does not work, you might want to download a Divx codec from WMPlugins.com (http://www.wmplugins.com/ItemDetail.aspx... ). This codec allows you to play the video in WMP without having to download another player. (I personally tried this on a similar problem I had before and it works well)

One quick way of fixing the problems you have is installing a recent version of Adobe Flash Player (it's a software often responsible for many video issues on pc, especially on youtube or other video platform and services). For instance if you are constantly getting black screens and your video doesn't start it's likely that your adobe flash player is either not present or corrupted. Try reinstall it again and keep finger crossed.

You can get the latest version of Adobe Flash Player for free here: http://bitly.com/1p3PEZi

Hi,

You can download Adobe Falsh Player here http://bitly.com/1p3PGAq

The only program you need if you can't watch videos or if you see a black screen is Adobe Flash Player. It's a necessary plug-in that allows you to reproduce videos online.

Have a nice day

Download and install the format factory.
