yes you can run so/x on a intel and AMD chips but not on it's own, you will need extra software to do it, same as the mac runs windows that uses extra software
In fact you can run any operating software you like on any computer system, using a dual boot system you can run any one of the versions of Linux and windows providing you have enough memory in your computer,
if you have not heard of Linux then do some research into it, it is a better faster and more secure operating system than MS Windows and it comes free with more software packages than you will ever need,
now to give you a insight into linux all the big computer manufactures use it on their business systems HP, DELL, COMPAQ, IBM, this is unknown to the general public
You can download Linux for free, and it is worth you looking into it take my word for it, the easiest Linux for new users is ubuntu or kubuntu, if/when you download it.... it will run off the CD rom without installing it onto your computer, you can do everything with it, the same as if it was installed onto your hard drive including getting on the internet, if you have broad band, dial up no.
Linux is window operating system just like ms windows xp it is point and click
so click on the links below and check it out you will not be sorry don't forget all the software is free to download including games
just read Rose D comment above and it is not true mac use unix/linux for their opreating system she needs to do some research into what can and can't be done....
