In Vista, that happens a lot. Try converting the video file to a WMV. Those work the best in movie maker.

First, are you able to drag your files to the Movie Maker?

If you are able to, is the screen all black while your playing it?

If yes, then here's what you should do.

1. Make sure your files are on the correct format. .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .wmv, etc.

2. Try switching your file to other formats.

3. Update your Movie Maker.

I know a file that can easily convert your videos to other formats. It's called 'Movie Converter V3'. It's fast and it's free. Here's the link..

A quick google search yielded this page:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308464

Check the format of your movie. If it's an mmpeg2, apparently movie maker has issues with it (just for fun). Convert the format of your movie for now, to mmpeg1 or wmv, if you don't have access to a mac.

If you're feeling adventurous (i.e. nothing else works and you're desperate), you can try installing LiVES, which is video editing software intended for linux, but which works on windows. Link:

Good luck!

There is something wrong with your installation of Windows Movie maker, Go to Add Remove Programs in your control panel and remove this product.

Then go to the micosoft website at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx

read the directions and download the newest verson and install it. Also let microsoft upgrade your installation of windows if necessary.

Everything should work after this

If you think it might be a codec problem I find a good codec pack is the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack). You can find it here: http://www.cccp-project.net/

It's totally free and have never had any problems playing any video files after installing it.

Windows Movie Maker is designed to MAKE movies not play them.

You need to play the movie in WMP or Quicktime depending on the format.

go to a friends house and your project or ask ur mom or dad about it......or call up the service

WMP will not play all types files. install these basics and come back to ask for other players that will handle most if not all file types like an flv player.

Download free moviesYou've just laid out the scratch for a new 42" HDTV, hooked up surround sound speakers, and you're ready to tuck into a bowl of popcorn. Now all you need are some movies. Well, you've come to the right place.

Here are five great Web sites where you can legally download free movies and burn them to a DVD to watch with your sweetie, family, and friends this weekend.

The Internet Archive - This is the motherlode for all kinds of free media (it's even got video games). The Archive has loads of old movies, foreign films, documentaries, and more. There's even a couple of movies about ice cream (hey, we just blog about this stuff -- we can't explain it either).

http://www.archive.org/index.php

Emol - If comedy and cartoons are what you're after, Emol.org is the place to go. Here's where you'll find Charlie Chaplin, The Three Stooges, Bugs Bunny, and Popeye.

http://emol.org/

AngryAlien - Just because none of these sites are likely to have the latest box office blockbuster available, that doesn't mean you can't still watch Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, or Star Wars. In less than 30 seconds. Acted out by bunnies.

http://www.angryalien.com/

PublicDomainTorrents - Head here for B-movies "Like Attack of the Giant Leeches", "Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter" (wonder what that love child looks like?), and "Track of the Moon Beast". On the other hand, you'll also find "Night of the Living Dead" on this site -- so it's not all bad.

http://www.publicdomaintorrents.com/

AtomFilms - There are some very creative films on this site made up of mostly user-created content. AtomFilms is a service of MTV Networks that serves up content to mobile phones and Web sites, but since they're partnered with Comedy Central and Spike TV there are a few gems on here if you poke around a bit.
