I just installed ubuntu 11.10 dual boot with my windows 7. But i get the windows boot loader unlike others. I want the classic ubuntu grub boot loader. can someone help me or tell me how i can get the grub boot loader on my ubuntu 11.10 64 bit / windows 7 home premium 64 bit os. I can still boot into ubuntu and windows both but it is through the windows boot loader which is usually there when 2 windows operating systems are dual booted. I was not given an option if i wanted ubuntu or ubuntu and grub. And also i have used wubi by downloading from here
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/windows-installer
I just need grub for its good looks and again i can boot inn both my operating systems. Again I have not used a live DVD or a flash drive but if I need one I can make a DVD for linux. please give me instructions. I have been suggested a page before but not been told which commands from theere do i follow. Please, I want the ultimate Ubuntu experience and am desperate for grub. please give instructions.

You answered your own question. You used WUBI to install Ubuntu which is why the Windows Boot Loader is still the one being used. When you use WUBI, Ubuntu is installed INSIDE Windows. Nothing needs to be changed in the Boot Loader. You should have installed Ubuntu alongside Windows but at a separate partition.

What you should do is uninstall Ubuntu from the Windows Control Panel and then reinstall Ubuntu by booting from the disc, not by running it inside Windows. Make sure you don't install over the Windows partition. Label your partitions properly.

That's interesting, usually when you install Ubuntu after Windows, it loads the Ubuntu loader as it is the software creating the extra partition and boot mapping. However if you install Ubuntu first, then install Windows 7, generally it is Windows that takes over the boot loading screen since it is the one creating the extra partition and boot mapping.

In which order did you install them?

I wouldn't get so hung up on grub. If your ubuntu works to your satisfaction then leave it as it is. At least you can easily uninstall it, and you haven't overwritten your windows partition.
