The type of disk you need is a CD-R. 80 minutes / 700 Mb.
If you're unsure of the player which will be used wav format is the safest to burn in.
More recent CD players will recognize the mp3 format as well as wav but older players will only play wav format CDs.
The disadvantage is the limited number of tracks, approx 18 - 20, but they can be played on anything.
I use Deepburner Free for burning mainly because it has an indicator which shows the space used on the disk.

If by "get" the wav format do you mean you can rip it?
Ripped direct to wav produces the best quality.
Converting from mp3 to wav will not improve the quality but if that's the only option the quality will at least stay the same.
WMP if the burn as "audio CD" or "music CD" option is selected the conversion from mp3 to wav is automatic. Not sure of the exact term used - haven't used it.
Regardless of the app used to burn the CD limit the burning speed to a maximum of 24x to reduce the chance of errors during the burn process.
