Open Office is a freeware :) and MS Office is a paid application :(.



In My opinion Open Office is way Tooo good for a freeware. All files created with MS office can be opened with open office and vice versa except Open office default extensions like ODT etc...



Paid is the disadvantage of MS Office. In Open Office the User Interface is not matchable for MS Office but all the options are easily usable and user friendly.



Where ever a linux system is used one of the Open office suites are being used. Since most of the Pc uses Windows Os the Ms office May have a slight chance for the popular category. but dont under estimate the power of Open source ( open office suites)



Windows --> MS office and also Open office

Linux and other Linux flavours --> open office and other Freeware office suites (libre office and many other office suites)



My opinion : Open office is Awesome when compared to Ms office and provides many Addons for various custom uses (can create a word/ppt to PDF just by a click ). Open Source always Rocks and Providing a free service to the consumers unlike microsoft products.
