Hey guys long story short,I decided i wanted a clean slate,My computer completely cleaned all the software reinstalled to factory default with empty folders.
But i cant find the disk for my system as it was already installed when i was given it,i know friends witj the disk but my product key is on the bottom of my laptop and some digits are worn off, almost unreadable i was wondering

Ive also been told Alt+F10 will take my computer into factory default like i want without the disc or product code.
Is this true,or am i doomed ?

You 'should' indeed have a hidden partition which you can access via F10, F8 (or whatever)

You'll need to read the lappys manual for EXACT instructions here,

as it can and does vary betweem manufacturers and models.

( I hope you haven't lost this too)

Once in that partition you'll find various options: SELECT

Edit:

You must be a Jonah Lucy,. my Mac just mysteriously crashed - for no apparant reason!!

That's NEVER happened in 10 years of using both PC's and Mac.

Anyways, DEREK C has given you the final part of the answer!!

Give it a Birthday you’ll be surprised, it will be as new.

From a completely mains off situation

Switch on and immediately and continuously tap F8. (This F number can be manufacture dependant) You must start from a power off situation. Until this action brings up on screen a selection of options. This is most important; you must achieve this before proceeding. Try F10 for example

One of which will be: - Select “Repair your Computer”, enter. Follow the on screen instruction but for the best result, select the top option “Full Destructive Recovery” if/when presented, don’t be timid, go for it.

Follow the on screen instructions Click start, enter. All you can do now is to sit back and relax, go for a coffee, leave it well alone let it do its own thing, it’ll take about 30 minutes.

Don’t bother to install any drivers (e.g. printer) asked for during the run up as this can easily be done after you have your pc back, in your control. Then spend time to get all, or most, updates in before you start loading your own software/games

PS if you need and have trouble getting “Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330) Google it

Pressing Alt + F10 will give you the opportunity to reset you comp back to factory settings from the recovery partition. without having to install drivers etc

If you reinstall from the partition stored on your hard drive, you won't need the product key it will instal automatically. Now download magic jelly bean from CNET.com and run program it will tell you the product key that is stored in your registry.

Good luck

I agree that RockXP or something like that can get the keys for you. yet i continuously theory that in case you didnt have orginal discs and offical keys then its unlawful to apply / setting up as your breaking EULA (end-person license agreements). additionally bear in mind that Vista key's assigned on your previous laptop and can not be transfered as you're paying for the OS to apply on that hardware.
