I know it's good for the work field, but I'm starting college soon, and was just wondering if I should upgrade it or leave it alone. I have Windows Vista Basic.

Upgrade Windows Vista Basic to Windows 7. Vista is full of errors and I would never recommend it to work with. This video might help you: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFfL16rZmiU

Windows Vista is a very less used Operating System Than Windows XP or Windows 7...
Vista Was Just A Flop!
If Your Computer Has Higher Configuration or You Use it for Official Work,Then I Would Recommend Windows 7...But, if it is For Home Use,Fun and Educational Purposes,Then You Can Opt For Windows XP SP3.
XP is Still Counted The BEST for Home Use as it Supports Everything,
Windows 7 Still Has Some Bugs and Not Fully Protected By Anti-Virus Programs...(These Would Be Fixed By 27th September, 2010 {OFFICIAL MICROSOFT NEWS})...
Now its Your Choice...But I Recommend Dont Use Windows Vista.
Thanks,

Stick with basic, you dont really ned ultimate. You can still buy the programs you will most likely need in school and use them on basic.
