FILE, PAGE SETUP,

Change the Top and Bottom margins from the 1" default.

Reduce the margins to 0.5 for example. Printers have a minimum margin which is defined by the printer driver.

If you are trying to get more information on the page, you can also try to reduce the Left and Right margins, and if you are desperate, you can reduce the font size ( not on this menu though). [ highlight the text, and right click, FONT ]

You can also change from Protrait, to Landscape if your document is too wide to fit on 8.5" width.

You can change from 8.5" x 11" to 11" width to 8.5" height.

Try the FILE, PRINT PREVIEW feature, to see how it will look before you print.

Most printers have a minimum requirement for how close to the edge of the sheet they can print - typically about 1/4" or so. If you set your margins to 0.25" or 0.33" you shouldn't get this message. Some printers may print beyond this area but most will probably cut off any image outside of this area.

I am not really sure what your desired result is, but if I need to get something as close to the edges of the paper as possible, I usually go with a 0.25" border (or so). If you need to have a full, 8½" x 11" image, then the easiest thing to do is to print your page onto a larger sheet of paper (9" x 11½" or 11" x 17") and then trim it to the desired size - this is an old printer's trick to get a full sheet bleed. Some home printers may not be able to handle this size, but most office copiers/printers should be able to.

Yeah it will print out like how you see it on your computer.

The printer has to grab the paper to move it, so there's always a part at the top and/pr botton that can't be printed to (the part of the printer that grabs the paper hides that part of the paper). Set the margins to 0, then let Word correct your settings. That's the maximum printable height for that printer. Very few printers can print to the edge of the paper - some of the better photo printers can.
