Technically speaking, an OEM license on computers with Windows preinstalled is valid only on the computer originally installed on. As you are practically going to use it on another computer, the OEM license cannot be transferred to it. However, if it's a retail license where the OS was purchased separately from the laptop, you may transfer it to another computer provided that the previous laptop is decommissioned or the OS is removed from it.

Having that said, there's nothing that will stop you from trying it on another computer in case you are curious. If you can get it activated then you are in luck. Otherwise, get a new license.

If you are pretty sure that you have a retail copy of Windows on one of your older computers, you may remove it and install Windows on the new PC using the retail license key. It's actually the license that you are transferring, not the OS copy. Do you have a copy of a genuine Windows 7 installer on a disc or flash drive?

By the way, in contrast to what the other two guys said, you cannot clone the contents of the laptop hard drive to your gaming PC's hard drive. You cannot even boot from the hard drive if you connected it to your gaming PC as the OS that is in the laptop's hard drive contains drivers based on that laptop. You won't be able to boot from the old OS properly. A clean install is a must. Back up all your data beforehand.

As an alternative of transferring it from the ipod, use a fileshare application. Listed below are some free ones: 4Shared (service) Torrent Swapper (download) Shareaza (down load) Microsoft place of business live Workspace (provider) DropBoks (provider) Openomy (provider) MP3 Rocket (down load) Bluestring (carrier) these can be utilized to switch ur brothers tune on his laptop straight to ur pc OR I dont be aware of if this works if the ipod is mac compatible, however 1. Plug the ipod in and dont fix it 2. Go to my pc and click on the icon for the ipod device three. Go to arrange>file and search options>view tab> selct display hidden folders if u have vista if u have xp, go to both view or tools i cant recollect>folder options>view tab>choose display hidden folders four. From there a folder must come up that says iPod control.Click on it 5. In finding the folder that claims music 6. As soon as u open it, there will likely be a bunch of folders label F00,F01, etc. The ipod scrambles all the track names into 4 letter combos. 7. Rather of going and renaming all of them, transfer them to your iTunes song folder. Eight. Verify ur settings on itunes, ensure it says let itunes control my music. 9. Add the songs in, and itunes will prepare them in the iTunes folder and the names will come up *observe this can be a beautiful tedious process if u have a lot of songs

Well here is a link that tells you how to do that;

Or you could use Macrium Reflect free version to clone the entire disc to an external device and transfer it to the new hard disc;

After extensive search we have found only 3 tools migrating programs, settings and files from Windows XP to Windows 7.

PCmover Professional transfers about 250 programs, settings and files, about $50.

SoftRescue - transfers about 80% of programs and settings and files, about $30

Windows Easy Transfer - transfers operating system and program settings and files only, but FREE!.

PickMeApp Beta - transfers about a million programs "only", but FREE!.

Turn $2 into $6250 in just one month?
