you should be able to change it by renaming it to .doc (suggest writing down previous name just in case it doesnt work) or you can open the file in the .rtf and then resave as a .doc to do this save as at bottom of screen you should have a drop down that will allow you to change it. But you have to have windows word to be able to do it.

Notepad saves everything as as a.txt file. You need to put your resume into a MS Word document. MS Word saves as a .doc file, which is what you need. I havd to go out and spend $150 on MS Office Suite to be able to do that, too. I had the same problem as you. You're right not to wantto copy and pste. It doesn;t look professional, and most places want toe .doc file. Good luck to you

Resume Document Format

The .doc format is the file format in which Microsoft Word saves files.
A number of programs claim to be able to convert rtf to doc and are available for download (just google: convert rtf to doc) but I've never used them so I won't make claims on their usability.
Your best bet is to find someone who has either Word, Wordperfect (which you can download for a free trial), or Open Office(which is free to download.) All of which can save files in doc format) and convert the file yourself.

You have to have Microsoft Office.
I would offer for you to send it to me and I can convert it to Doc but a resume contains personal info so I don't think you would want to do that.
Try searching for rtf to doc converter online.

In order to create .doc files you need to have Microsoft Word. Their extension is .doc

I'm not familiar with MS Notepad, but check the save options. Sometime there is a "save as file type" option. There maybe a .doc that is available.

Most resumes are saved as PDFs and then forwarded that way as an attachment to your email(s). Remember that most Net browsers come with Adobe Reader already installed. Unfortunately, that is not the case with Word.
Good luck!
