Question:
usb devices stopped working on acer laptop. usb ports have power, device manager says usb is ok, nothing works

I have tried disabling and enabling usb in device manager. I have tested the ports with mouse x2, usb speakers, webcam, all inoperative although they appear to have power. A usb cooling fan works in all ports. Any ideas? (using windows xp sp2)

Have you made sure that your drivers are up to date. If there is not a proper driver for the cord and the device, it might not work. This sometimes happens to me also.

quick test; take out the battery and run on dc power (your power converter). my dell did the same things and this worked. after a short (hour) while it cleared up.
