Question:
Installing Windows 7 - Failure?

I have Windows 8. For some reason, I just want to use Windows 7 as well. I am very experienced in Installing Windows and with computers

If I try to install Windows 7 in UEFI mode, then the "Loading Files" bar finished successfully, but the installation freezes and stops when it says "Starting Windows" with those coloured balls. I wait, but nothing happens. My internal Hard Disk Drive turns off after a little while, and the external Hard drive (Which I'm installing Windows from) has no Read or Write I/O. Nothing happens. Fans are off, HDDs are off.

If I try to install Windows 7 in Legacy BIOS mode, then the installation runs perfectly until I get to the point of Choosing which partition I want to install Windows 7 on. It gives me the error:
"Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."
And so I cannot continue.

Is there a solution to this problem?
I need to either:
Be able to install Windows on GPT partition Scheme/Style
or
Resolve the frozen boot screen.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I've had this problem before too. You are right about using legacy but as for the GPT style, it needs to be MBR instead. You can do this through the windows installation by using the repair windows part and getting yourself into the command prompt. When you are in use these commands

1 - diskpart - this will run the diskpart program

2 - list disk - this will show your disks, usually the disk you want is disk 0 (the big one, the other is the usb or cd drive just be sure you know the sizes of your disks so you get the right one.

3 - select disk 0 - assuming it's disk 0

4 - clean - carefull this wipes everything

5 - convert mbr - this gets rid of the gpt style

6 - create partition primary size = ??? - enter your desired size in the ??? part for the windows partition

7 - format fs = ntfs quickly - to make the partition ntfs

8 - exit - to quit diskpart

9 - exit to leave the command prompt

10 - and your all done and should be able to install windows 7 onto the disk now

The UEFI reboot problem may simply be due to Windows 7 not having the appropriate SATA driver included.

That is quite common on recent hardware and if so, you would get the same result after installing in MBR mode.

Go through the setup again, but at the target disc selection screen use the option to add extra drivers.

Select the appropriate SATA driver from the motherboard support CD or download it from the machine/motherboard makers web site and unpack it to a USB stick, then select that as the driver source.

With that added, it should hopefully be able to boot properly.

if you have a disc image you should write it on to a cd and then you should put the cd in and then install it during the booting process, it will not have any problem
