Question:
How do I install Media Player and other drivers in Ubuntu 11.04 without being connected to the Internet?

I installed Ubuntu Linux 5.0 once, but could not do much with it, because the Media Player did not have any drivers. I downloaded GStreamer at the office, and took it home, and could do nothing at all with it. I asked for advice, and was told that I had to open up the "Terminal" (one day, I found out where that was,) and type some "Pseudo" command- which I did- (rrreally!) but nothing happened! No, that is not correct- there was this message which said: "CANNOT FIND GSTREAMER."

I knew what was wrong- I hadn't put the Extension on the end. *Tch!* Silly me. So I put it.
Same result.
Okay- What If I change the directory around?
I put copies of GStreamer all over the place- the Sumo programme or whatever continued to play Blind Man's Bluff with me all over the partition! Finally, I gave up, and did all my media stuff in Windows- who cares it's riddled with viruses? Even a five year old can handle that!

I thought things might be better if I installed Linux 11.04.
This time I lost a perfectly good 160GB Hard Drive- apparently, the MBR has gone North for the Winter. After a week of Gorilla Warfare (no, I know how to spell "Guerilla") I managed to get it installed to the Beta Partition of my spare. After a month, some kind people told me how to get my Motherboard to find that partition again.

However, it looks like the Media Player situation is no better for all that.
Now, I don't even know which drivers to download, much less how to install them.
Is this why Linux is free? If Windows was half this tough, Bill Gates should have been the World's poorest business man by now!

Ubuntu 11.04 already has everything you need included, like LibreOffice, Empathy, Firefox, Skype, Banshee or Rhythmbox media Players, for example.

There's no need to install anything, but, if the App you want isn't there, you can download Ubuntu Apps on a friend's Windows PC, and use a USB Dongle to put it on your Linux Box.
