There is very little difference in xp home and xp pro if you have sp2 installed...xp pro does offer a little more about networking

Basically very little.
If the pc is not going to be used on a network with a domain, then XP Home is fine. If you later need to connect to a domain though, you're stuffed.
Both XP Home and XP Pro can act as a server - you can share files and printers from it fine. XP Home allows a maximum of 5 other pc's connected to it, but XP Pro allows 10.
In practically all home or small business situations I've come across, these are the only important differences.
So, if you don't need to connect to a domain and you don't have more than 5 pc's to connect to it on a network, then go for Home and save some money :)

Visit the Microsoft link below to see the differences between Home and Pro.
The main difference is that Windows XP Pro offers more networking capability and the ability to use your PC as a server.
I would recommend using Pro in all cases. Personally, I have experienced more networking problems with Home than Pro.
Here are the prices from NewEgg.com:
Windows XP Pro - $144.95
Windows XP Home - $ 89.95
