Question:
Looking for a media player?

I have been looking for a media player for a few days now. Hopefully someone here will be able to give a suggestion.

Things I am looking for in media player

1. decent subtitle support . Some media players have this restriction , that for the subtitle to load , it should have the same filename as the movie. don't want this

2. library/organizing features similar to windows media player. A lot of good players like smplayer don't have any ability to organize media.

3. Lots of keyboard shortcuts /menu commands . to be specific , for basic things like pause/volume and sting brightness/contrast seeking forward and backward in time etc. SMplayer has awesome shortcuts. unfortunately i am addicted to them and can't use a player that doesn't have lots of keyboard shortcuts

4. recognize all formats

I haven't been able to find my ideal media player. players that i have tried

windows media player : terrible subtitle support , lacks keyboard shorcuts for basic things.

winamp: brightness/contrast cannot be adjusted, subtitle support is terrible.

vlc/smplayer/kmplayer: great players but these don't have any organizing/library features.

suggest something please

Hi There,

You can try Real Player. It has been around for a long time and plays about anything.

Also it has many bells and whistles. Link below.

There also is another player that is good at organizing and building libraries. If I remember correctly it has keyboard shortcuts too. Amarok comes installed on many distros of Linux but they have a Windows version too that is a free download. Link below.

Hope one of these helps,
