You cannot speed up a download speed. That isn't how it works.

If you need faster internet, you need to contact your ISP and have the internet increased or figure out what is slowing you down. Go to SpeedTest.net to determine your speed and figure out from there what it should be. Start with restarting your router and contacting your ISP to find out if everything is running well between you.

Why would you ask this question without saying what kind of internet service it is that you get, because it's likely the service rather than either hardware or software that's at issue. Were that not the case, you should have thought to include in your question what hardware you have. In any event, software cannot make your computer run faster or improve your internet speeds - quite the contrary, software uses your computer's processing power and memory and (for internet software) your bandwidth. Software slows you down.

The biggest obstacle to computer performance....is the owner. You download a lot of torrents and also from youtube. I use realplayer for youtube and uTorrents for the other stuff. Depending on the popularity of the file, I can get download speeds over 2mbps. For low seeders, the speeds drop, but that has nothing to do with the software on your computer (did you think otherwise?) Downloading from Torrents are problematic because so many torrent sites are clear security risks, and they always try to trick you into downloading stuff other than what you wanted, meaning that you are likely to picked up malware that's hampering you. malware scanners can bring your computer back to snuff - making it as fast as it should be but no faster.

Last week I dumped AT&T DSL's 1.1 Mb/s speed for Comcast's 25 Mb/s service. Same price and now movies download 10 to 20 faster.
