Use the neighboring columns (C, E, F) or insert some new columns next to D. Then drag select the columns you want to combine in a "header", say row 2, columns D-F, and click Merge and Center. Enter your multiple columns "header" in the Merged cell.

1. Highlight the block of cells you need to break into more columns, estimate the extra columns involved when there are data on the right side, you either need to move them or insert more columns on the right for the extra columns to fit in.

2. go to menu data, text to columns, either choose delimited or fixed width, then follow the instruction to finish the split,

Note: the result might not be so satisfying because variations in setting before the final result come up, just use ctrl+z to undo and try again.

Hope this helps.

To add a single column Right click on the column header where you want the new column added to open the context menu. Choose Insert from the menu. The new column will be inserted to the left of the selected column. To add multiple columns In the column header, select the number of columns you want added to the spreadsheet. Right click on the selected columns to open the context menu. Choose Insert from the menu. The new columns will be inserted to the left of the selected columns.
