I need to lock a ppt for a client so the font stays the same but they will need to be able to edit the actual text.

To my knowledge you cannot "lock" a presentation in this way, but what you can do, is set up the font using the Master Pages so that the font and layout are the same for each slide, and all you would need to do is change the content.
To do this in PowerPoint 2007:
Click the View tab and select Slide Master.
The first slide listed to the left controls all the slides setup in the basic Title & Content layout. Below that you can control the other layouts if you think you'll use them, as well as the title slide.
When you have set up the theme, layout, and fonts to your liking just the red X box that says Close Master View. Anything you enter on any of the slides will reflect what you have set up on the Master Slides.
