Question:
How to remove "Windows boot manager" OS startup selection screen?

i recently installed windows 7 beta to try it out. I had the OS running off of another hard disk. My primary hard disk has Windows XP OS.

What happened after is that windows 7 created an OS startup screen where you have the ability to select which OS to boot into. I later decided to format my other hard disk (the one containing windows 7) and it seems the OS startup screen is still coming up and asking me which OS I want to load.

Since windows 7 is not installed anymore, how do make it so that my computer boots directly into Windows XP without prompting me to select an OS, like I had before?

Thanks for your help.

start>run> type "msconfig" , press enter

go to the tab boot.ini

if XP is the only OS on your system that you boot from, there should be only one entry under operating system section in that file as follows :

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

remove the command line containing the win 7 os its the same as the one that shows winxp command line above .

set the boot menu display time (shown as timeout) to " 0 " secs its for the best save and exit the text doc . and reboot to check it out .

more info -

This is a sample of a default Boot.ini file from a Windows XP Professional computer.

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
