Automatic numbering of tables in Microsoft word? Please help?

Hi I have a word document and I have lots of tables and figures in it. What do I have to do for the tables and figures to be automatically numbered when they are inserted? So that at the end I can generate a list of tables and figures?

Does any one know step by step how to do this? Thanks for helping!
