I work in a medical office and we need to upgrade our computers from windows XP to some newer version of windows due to XP not being supported by Microsoft after April 2014 and this being important to protect versus privacy concerns for patients.

Can you buy one windows 7 or windows 8 software cd and install it on multiple computers? Each windows cd has an activation key I understand. I think I recall previous windows versions you could install one cd on multiple computers. Web searches I've done seem to indicate you have to buy a separate windows program for each computer for windows 7 or 8 though. I hope that's not the case because we have 11 computers in our office.

Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

Stay away from W8- trust me!

Yes- you can buy a W7 for several computers- but it costs for each computer. There is no savings.

Talk to someone locally and ask about Linux Mint, Ubuntu. For most its free, but if you want commercial support it is available for a fee.

Sorry, you have to buy mutiple copies, you can get discounts. If you don't, and try to install the same copy on multiple machines that are connected via a network it will lock them up. If cost is a major issue you might want to think about linux.
