I am trying to make a .nfo file for diagnostics of a problem I am having. I run MSInfo32.exe and hit "save." When I try to open the .nfo file, I get the error,

"System Information cannot open this NFO file. It might be corrupted or an unrecognized version."

The people trying to help me cannot open the file either. I've tried making multiple ones, turning off anti-virus and firewall, and even making one in safe mode. Nothing seems to work. What can I do?

My system is Vista Home Premium x86 SP1.

Since .nfo files have been used for software piracy, Microsoft has that extension associated with Windows. Just name the file with a .txt extension and avoid the problem.

I would suggest to use Everest Home Edition than the MSinfo.

You can download here :

Everest Home Edition is an utility to make THE MOST COMPLETE Report about your PC, the OS, the hardwares, and the softwares. It can also export the report into a .txt, .html files. So neat that this is my favorite than the Standard System Information that came with XP.

Hope it helps,

Try opening it with notepad or wordpad (go into the program and go to File->Open and find the .nfo file). It's basically just a text file that any text editor can open.
